Why is there such a push to transition to electric vehicles

The fact that the European Union is promoting electric vehicles is nothing new. This is despite the fact that the majority of these vehicles are not domestically produced but imported from China. Nor can we ignore the fact that many drivers are not very enthusiastic about this development.

The problem is that it is better to let nature take its course than to try to speed up the process through various regulations. For example, there is a ban on the manufacture and sale of new cars with internal combustion engines (which does not yet apply to used cars), which is planned for the foreseeable future.

One can therefore ask what is driving the EU. After all, this appears to be a rather self-defeating move. And it is clear that no politician would approve it without serious, preferably economic, reasons. So a look at the issue shows that there are indeed such reasons, although not as direct as one might expect.

The objective is, of course, to combat global climate change by reducing emissions of greenhouse and other harmful gases. But how does this help the economy? Simply put, as climate change worsens, weather phenomena will become more extreme. One only needs to look at how the distribution of annual rainfall is changing and the frequency of natural disasters such as tornadoes and floods to see this.

Then there is the fact that people living in polluted air are more likely to get sick and therefore less productive. Thus, they do not contribute to the economy. On the contrary, they spend heavily on health care. Thus, it is clear that the state wants people who are healthy and fit for work.It is probably not necessary to go into too much detail about how much it costs to support farmers, repair damage, and support health care. It is understandable that developed countries are trying to deal with this problem as best they can. Regardless of whether people protest against it or not.
